Travel Regulations for Methadone Patients regarding France

France*

Continued treatment: possible

There are specialized substitution treatment centres in most larger cities. These centres are of assistance with arranging treatment in rural places. The contact details of all ambulatory services are available HERE. Apart from selecting the “Region” or the “Département” of destination “Unité methadone” has to be filled in with “Type de structure” and “Substitution” with “Activité”.

Importation of Methadone/Buprenorphine/Morphine: possible

Amount of maximum daily doses to be brought into France for personal use:

Injectable morphine: 7 daily doses
Methadone syrup: 14 daily doses
Methadone/Morphine/Buprenorphine tablets: 28 daily doses

Travellers must carry with them a valid medical prescription. We recommend carrying a notarized photocopy of the original prescription. Further, we advise travellers from one of the EU signatory countries of the “Schengen Implementing Convention, Article 75 to also carry with them a “Certification to carry drugs and/or other psychotropic substances for treatment purposes – Schengen Implementing Convention, Article 75” form when travelling to France, provided such forms are available in the corresponding countries. Travellers from Non-Schengen signatory countries should carry a certificate from their home prescribing doctor or clinic.
