Methadone Treatment: available

Methadone treatment is provided by Collectif Urgence Toxida (CUT). Dosing will be arranged on a daily basis (take home doses must not be provided!). Travellers needing continued dosing are advised to contact CUT well in advance of their planned jouney:

Importation of Methadone: possible

Though it is possible to bring methadone into Mauritius for personal use (thus avoiding daily dosing at CUT), travellers might go through some hard time with customs officers on their arrival: The fact is that even if a patient comes in the country with all relevant papers from his/her doctor (contact the embassy of Mauritius in your country to check which papers are required), if checked at customs and the medication is found, customs officers have to contact the patient’s home prescribing doctor by phone to once again check that the methadone has been prescribed legally for personal use of the traveller. The problem is that with the time difference, it might be challenging to get hold of the doctor. Therefore, we would advise to arrange continued dosing at CUT (to avoid running the risk of getting into big trouble with customs).
