Opioid Substitution Treatments:
available

The Substance Misuse Out-Patient Unit at St Luke’s Hospital, run by Aġenzija Sedqa, provides medical attention to methadone patients and helps them in continuing with methadone treatment during their stay in Malta. A letter of reference from the prescribing doctor or clinic is required. This letter should include detailed information about the type of drug and dosage, the address of the patient, and the date of arrival and departure. To be accepted for methadone treatment a patient has to register at the Substance Misuse Out-Patient Unit and undergo an interview with the house doctor. Treatment will then be provided as necessary for a minimal fee. We strongly advise patients/doctors to contact the clinic before booking a flight.

Importation of Opioid Substances:
possible

It is allowed to bring into Malta a quantity of 30 daily doses, provided patients carry with them a letter from their prescribing doctor/clinic and a copy of the original prescription. Travellers from one of the Schengen Signatory Countries may carry with them the so-called “Schengen Form”.
