Importation of Opioids: possible

Travellers visiting Costa Rica with prescribed opioids for personal use must carry with them a doctor’s letter written in Spanish together with a photocopy of the original prescription. Please note that information about the medical indication must be given in the letter. When preparing the doctor’s letter, we recommend using this specimen form as a guide. The medical indication can be provided there under point “D” under “remarks”.  The medication must be carried in its original packaging (tablets). Bottles must have a label. Please note: Travellers must carry with them the quantity of medication that corresponds to the prescribed dosage and the duration of stay in Costa Rica.
