Methadone Treatment: available
In 1995 a network of Centers for the Prevention and Treatment of Drug Addiction was set up in the Republic of Slovenia all of which dispense methadone oral solution on a daily basis. Foreign methadone patients will be accepted for treatment provided they can produce a valid passport and a certificate from their clinic or GP stating the patient’s personal data, the dose of methadone (in mg), phone and fax number of the home prescriber, possible allergic reactions with the patient, other possible diagnoses (e.g. psychiatric diagnoses according to international classification, pregnancy), other therapies being applied to the patient, duration of stay and address while in Slovenia. The patients’ home doctors should contact a Slovenian Methadone prescriber at least three days in advance of the prospective date of arrival.
Importation of Methadone: possible
Travellers are allowed to bring into Slovenia the quantity of methadone needed for the duration of stay. They must carry with them a letter from their home doctor giving identification details and clearly stating that the medication is for personal use of the patient and has been prescribed according to national regulations. Methadone patients bringing methadone into Slovenia are expected to contact a Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Drug Addiction.
