Methadone/Buprenorphine Treatment: available

Foreign patients will be accepted for temporary treatment at a hospital in Reykjavik (Landspitalinn, unit "Bradamottaka"), provided the local health authority has given their approval. Therefore, the home prescriber should provide notice of his/her patient's intended journey to the Reykjavik health authority (Landlaeknisembaettid) well in advance of arrival to provide sufficient time to give permission and for arrangements to be made with the hospital. On arrival the traveller should carry with him/her a letter from his/her clinic or doctor clearly stating identification and treatment details.

Importation of Methadone/Buprenorphine: possible

Foreign travellers are permitted to bring into Iceland the quantity of methadone/buprenorphine needed for personal use as medication for the duration of stay. They must carry with them a letter from their doctor which clearly supports their need for the medication.
